One of the ten National Professors of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research during 2006 to 2012, Dr. Bijay is presently associated with Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana as an INSA honorary scientist. He has served as a Senior Soil Chemist from 1994 to 2006 and as an INSA senior scientist from 2012 to 2017.
Dr. Bijay has a wealth of experience in educational leadership and environmental issues. He has been decorated with several awards including the Rafi Ahmad Kidwai memorial Prize for Indian Council of Agricultural Research-the most prestigious award in agricultural Sciences in India. The fertilizer Association of India has honoured him with its Silver Jubilee Award two times in 1984 and 2001. Dr. Bijay has been elected as the Vice-Chairman of the Commission on soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition of the international Union of Soil Sciences during 2010-14.
